Hair Icon of the Year: Errol Douglas MBE

Australian hairdressing’s biggest annual event, the Australian Hair Fashion Awards (AHFA), presented by Dyson took place this Monday October 18 2022. The event, which was hosted in Melbourne for the first time in 30 years, crowned the UK’s very own Errol Douglas MBE, 2022 Icon of the Year.

Errol, a statuesque and elegant man, looked at home collecting the Icon of the Year award. Dressed in a sleek red outfit. Red velvet jacket by House of Cavani, red tailored trousers with black stripe and matching red shoes by Paul Smith, his graciousness was apparent in his acceptance speech.

On picking up his title, Errol commented, “I am always inspired and impressed by the Australian hair industry and the AHFA is such an incredible, motivational awards. It is a huge privilege to be given this title, especially as I am only one of three other people on the planet to have received it. What a night - never to be forgotten. The international hairdressing community is stronger than ever.”

Another award win to add to his increasing portfolio, Errol puts his success down to, “Always demanding the best of oneself, living with honour, and devoting one's talents and gifts for the benefits of others. These are the measures of success.”

From the FrontRowPro team; ‘Congratulations on your win, Errol! We just wanted to say thank you for the work you've done for our industry so far and let you know how much we appreciate it. We're so proud of you and can't wait to see what you'll do next, safe travels back!’

The gala took place at Melbourne’s CIEL, The Venue, and hosted a sold-out crowd of 800 people. Special guests included Errol Douglas MBE and Australian born, global success story, Richard Mannah - in town for the inaugural Mane Stage education event that took place the day before.

With Dyson as Presenting Partner for the fourth year running, and O&M onboard as Principle Colour Partner, the runway show platformed the work of Dyson Styling Ambassadors Damien Rinaldo & Michael Beel, using Dyson hair care tools to create their looks, in collaboration with Australian fashion designers Yousef Akbar and Jason Grech.

Kate Peck and Dyson Global Styling Ambassador Peter Thomsen owned the stage as official hosts, keeping guests entertained throughout the evening and as 2022’s legends were officially crowned. Other titles went to Renya Xydis, who took the title of Hairdresser of the Year, Lauren Cooper of Etcher Salon for Creative Colourist of the Year and Luke Munn, of Havachat Barbershop for Men’s Hairdresser of the Year.
